Super Bowl Sunday is just around the corner and like all good sports reporters, Elizabeth Merrill has been tasked with a story revolving around the Patriots team. More specifically a story about the reason I'm considering rooting for the Patriots come Sunday - Wes Welker. What can I say? Welker easily became one of my favorite players during his days with Texas Tech catching passes from Kliff Kingsbury. Every NFL Draft I root for Tech players to get drafted and make it, but not since Zach Thomas has a Texas Tech player actually succeeded in the NFL - until Wes Welker. Merrill does a great job on this look back at Welker's struggles to get noticed despite his size.
